OBJECTIVES
In more detail, the Project objectives are as follows:
-
To improve the living standard of BPL
families by creation of employment opportunities
-
To provide necessary skills to the beneficiaries
and to enhance their production capacity so they can become
competitive and responsive towards the existing production
and labour market
-
To develop the organizing and leadership
ability of women workers so they can strengthen and grow
their own organizations
-
To help the beneficiaries in capital
formation at the household level through access to financial
services so they can build up and create assets of their
own (land, house, work shed, equipment, savings, micro-
insurance etc.)
-
To develop institutional capacity for
the smooth implementation and monitoring of the Programme
and to deliver social security programs (e.g. health and
child care) for women workers and improve their ability
to use these programs
To achieve these objectives, proposed activities will focus
on (a) generation of income through the creation of employment
opportunities (b) micro-finance (savings, credit), (c) provision
of socio-economic security and (d) capacity building of the
beneficiaries through the improvement of their managerial skills.
All activities will be tailored to available resources and opportunities
in the respective districts.
In addition, central to achievement of this development
objective will be the formation of community-based organizations,
most notably the SHG; this organization is made up of members
(typically women of BPL households) that possess similar potential
for economic activity and can together develop their productive
skills and move towards independence, self-reliance and self-confidence.
Additional levels of community organizing (for example the
Spearhead Team, which consists of grass-root leaders and SEWA
organizers) will also play important roles.
